Bye bye Tree.

I'm re-learning something God taught me a while back. You don't need friends, and you don't need sentiments. You don't need comforts, you don't need fairy-tale memories. They make life nicer and sometimes easier, but you don't need them. Life's easy when it's nice and sweet but you can live life without it being so.

Not sure how, but watching a crew cut down a tree that I grew up around made me think of this stuff. The space where luscious leaves and branches once proudly spread is now bright and bare. Never again will I be able to walk around under its shade and look up to see a green canopy above me, shielding me (and my house--and the tree-cutting neighbor's house) from the sun. I cannot comprehend why my neighbor wants to remove this tree.

Now I'm not even sure how the latter is related to what I first said. Maybe because I found the tree comforting, in an odd way. I can live without the tree, but it was nice when it was around. Seriously, it's just a tree. But it meant something, and now I'm kicking myself for being so sentimental over a tree. I'll get over it.

Purpose

I'm watching this dove waddle around. I notice he's got short, stubby legs, and they're not that efficient. It's gets him around, but walking's obviously not his thing. He can fly, though. He was made to fly, not to walk or run. God made him that way to contribute to the ecosystem only how a dove can.

And I'm thinking that God made humans like that, too. As in, God made people the way they are, with their likes, their dislikes, their abilities, and their weakness. We all fulfill a different part of his plan.

And it can hurt at times, when I find that I'm not built how I want to be. I want to walk like others, you see. But God made me to fly, and one day, he'll show me why. For now, I'm slowly learning to enjoy the view.

Gettin' there...

Just ran a 8:11 min/mile. Not too bad if you factor in the blanket of smoke that's been covering the area. Now if I could do three of those, I'd be good to go. I hope I can bring my 3 mile time (record 28:48 as of July 2011--pathetic, I know) down before I leave for VMI in July, or at least by August when I'll be matriculating.
